[glow=red,2,300]I've got a hunting buddy that has a 5 month old Mounain Cur that he got from a man in Denton, NC. I think he is a Carolina Cur/Mountain Cur cross but not sure at the moment. My friend can't hunt much this year due to work and he told me I could take him for free if I could put him to use. I'm going to look him over and might pick him up. I only plan on training him up and offered to return him in the future if he'll be able to hunt him good or if not, I'll sell him down the road once he is treeing strong.
What are everybody's opinions of Cur dogs? I'm a feist addict and I'm wondering how much different training a cur is from a feist? How is their handling & ranging compaired to a feist and what bad habits can they pick up. Any and all input is welcome! Thanks, Byron[/glow]

The mountain curs i've had have all been a one owner kind of dog that would do anything you asked them to do..very loyal..the males can be kinda head strong and grawly at times..i can't compare them to a fiest because i've never had oportunity to hunt with one yet

I agree on what fred18 posted. I have owned cur dogs and have a treeing cur right now. Their personalities are slightly different than feist....but it depends on the line. Curs are the most similar breed to Feist because of all the crossing back and forth over the centuries. My Mountain Curs had a tendency to get ill toward other dogs or strangers if you didn't socialize them like crazy. He might make a dog for you but my personal opinion is you will see why feist suit you so well.

[glow=red,2,300]I agree, too. I'm only thinking about taking the Cur up as a project. I'd like to get experance with one cur but only one, tho. I like my feist way to much to start raising other dogs, too but I do think raising one will give me a better understanding of my feist. If I do take him up, it'll be just to train him and return him started, sell him down the road or give him to a young hunter. I can't picture myself keeping him for the long haul. [/glow]

Hahaha! I ended up picking him up today. I can assure you he won't take away from my "Feist time"!
