Hello Everyone:
I thought it would be good to have a post dedicated to the squirrel species/subspecies that might be threatened or endangered in North America so we can all learn about what is going on the Squirrel Conservation World. Below is a link to a site maintained by the United States Fish and Wildlife Service pertaining to the federally endangered Delmarva Peninsula Fox Squirrel. The Delmarva Fox Squirrel is a subspecies of the Eastern Fox Squirrel (Sciurus niger) The scientific latin name of the Delmarva Fox Squirrel is Sciurus niger cinereus I know there are other squirrels in danger of extinction as well. So, if you live in an area with endangered or threatened squirrels post something about it here. Thanks.

The Northern Flying Squirrel is endangered in the Southeast and is limited to higher elevations in the Appalachian Mountains. In the Northern part of the US, I believe they are doing fine. Below is a link to some information about the subspecies of Northern Flying Squirrel that is listed as Endangered by the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the Carolina Northern Flying Squirrel: www.fws.gov/E.../i/a/saa8g.html
