Nellie is sight chasing, ground tracking and listening for squirrels! She is coming along nicely. Did some caged squirrel work and she is going to be a dandy!
Just need her to open more but she is putting feet on the wood and staying longer now.

Nelly opened on multiple squirrels this past weekend in Missouri. Timbering squirrels got her all fired up!

That's good! I'm sure am glad for this board being here because I'm sure I can use some pointers from more experienced feist hunters on training my pups when they arrive.

Marc, how do you encourage them to put feet on the tree? Any tips/tricks?

Most of it is bred into them. Praise praise praise when they do what you want. You can walk up to the tree and "sick" the pup on it to get them excited enough about the tree to put their feet on the wood. Reinforcing the location of a squirrel they treed through praise, making it move or shooting it out can help.
