Took cracker out this morning and man the squirrels were wild. His first tree was a little over 400 yards by counting footsteps. I nailed that one with the 17. Within 5 minutes he was treed again. I got to the tree and soon as I found the squirrel it bailed. He timbered it about 20 yards to a den tree. Called him off and within minutes he was 300 yards and treed again, got there and the squirrel bailed. He timbered this one nearly 50 yards to yet another den. This happened 6 more times making 9 trees. Started back to the truck and bam treed again but this time in a pine and I just couldn't find it. Got almost to the truck when he winded one. Cracker was gone again and about 300 yards and across a big creek he was treed. I finally got to him and spotted the squirrel and my gun misfired not once but twice. Squirrel bailed and he timbered it another 500 yards before it held in a big oak. Got to him again and 3 more misfires. Again the squirrel bailed and probably held on trees 5 or 6 more times and when I would get to it gone agian. A branch broke and the squirrel hit the ground. Cracker grabbed it and it nailed him enough for him to turn it loose and he treed it yet again. I got there and again it timbered after chasing that squirrel for what seemed like an hour it hit a den tree and I could see it poke its head out. Got ready to shoot it when I saw a young squirrel stick its head out and then another and another. She had 3 babies in that tree and was bound and determined to make it to them. After trailing and timbering that squirrel for over 800 yards I was well pleased with cracker and really wanted to get that one out but left it and the next generation safely tucked away in there home.
I spilled a cup of coke on my shells a couple days ago and I tell you what they would not fire after that I guess it must have soaked inside of them. I didn't know I had done it and they soaked in it overnight. Will add some pics later.
