Got some new chickens last night and smokey been throwing a fit all morning. I figured it was over the chickens being near him so I put the e collar on him to nip that in the bud. Well I turned him loose and he headed straight for the woods. In no time at all he was treed. Got this video of him and a picture of the squirrel. Ran back to the house to grab my gun. Time I got back it had timbered out to another tree with smokey hot on it. I couldn't find it in this tree so I didn't get to shoot it out. youtu.be/zQbug8S95G8Can't get the pic of the squirrel to load

I'm pretty proud of this pup. He just turned 5 months old and started treeing on his own at 3 months. Got him out of Georgia from Mr Jerry Roper. Same place sally mae came from. I will be raising a liter of pups from the two this spring. I can't wait. I will be keeping the pick female to train and hunt myself and if she turns out good she will be breed to cracker. Gonna be some early starting use all their senses squirrel dogs. Will be some good squirrel dogs coming from here for years to come. I just wish the leaves would fall off so I can get him in the woods and kill some squirrels to him.
Couldn't get the photo on due to photobucket I do believe

I had been planning to wait until the leaves fell off to take smokey to the big woods. Something told me to take him this morning. We started walking down an old logging road and about 30 yards into the woods a squirrel darted right in front of Smokey and he was in hot pursuit. Luckily it went up about 20 feet and stopped on the side of the tree. Smokey was really hammering it and I shot it out to him. He grabbed that squirrel and was shaking it for all it was worth. When I finally managed to get it from him he didn't want to leave my side. He could smell that squirrel in my pocket and just wouldn't leave me. I did see 4 or 5 more squirrels that were cutting and smokey did start to venture out again. He was checking trees and smelling everything. He would investigate every sound he heard but wasn't experienced enough to find those that hadn't come to the ground to feed. I know I was sure fired up being able to shoot his first one out to him just a few days after he turned 5 months old.
