Hey good evening everyone Let's get a discussion going on how to stop a young dog from barking in the Kennel. Jasper is 7 months old and he likes to bark a lot in the kennel. Not as much on the chain but I do not like keeping a dog on a chain.

A quick spray with a water hose usually works for me. Thing I have learned over the years though is find out what they are barking at. Sometimes there is a reason why they are barking. I don't like to punish one for something of there is a reason behind it. Another thing I have found is to put some kind of toy in with them. Sometimes they bark out of boredom.

He has a toy and a tennis ball. I let him out every afternoon for around a hour. I put a other dog in with him and that's worse.

Luther's Feist, no sir I ignore him when he is barking in the kennel hoping that would make he less likely to keep doing it.

I would try the water hose trick. They say that a mouthy dog in the kennel well be a hard tree dog as well

I feel like I've tried everything over the years but have only had a couple dogs that do what I consider "kennel barking." In other words barking at you while you're in the house or otherwise just trying to get attention - not barking at an intruder or game. The worst I had was a male I got from KY for an outcross years ago. I liked everything about him except the kennel barking. We lived on a big farm surrounded by timber with no neighbors pretty much. So, the best option was to let him have run of the property. He didn't leave other than to hunt some on his own & helped protect the place.
The other dog is a descendant of his. I bred back to a male from the outcross and he kennel barks but mostly at other dogs. He is not as bad as the older male was but we have neighbors now. It's a fine line using an e-collar to correct it. You have to correct him when he's barking in a manner you don't want. Have to make sure he's not barking for a good reason or else you could discourage barking on tree. The water trick/telling him to "hush" works sometimes. Just when I thought he was learning to associate random barking with the correction, the behavior came back. So - we've been going through a lot of batteries! Haha We try to keep his energy burned off hunting.
The biggest factor I've found would be to get good fences and make sure the dog/cat next door isn't terrorizing your kennel.
